Russian embassy in Pakistan works in usual regime

ISLAMABAD, December 29 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian embassy in Islamabad has been working in a usual mode, but it has tightened security following the recent dramatic developments in Pakistan and death of ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto who fell victim to a terrorist attack.

None of the workers of the Russian embassy or their families has been hurt during local protest acts staged in Islamabad in recent days.

On Saturday, the situation in Islamabad was reported calm. After nationwide mourning for Benazir Bhutto was declared all state organizations, shops, banks, markets and fuelling stations remain closed. Heavy police forces have been guarding the area of the presidential palace, governmental organizations and the diplomatic enclave.

Over 50,000 Chinese cars to be sold in Russia by end of this year

MOSCOW, September 28 (Itar-Tass) -- More than 50,000 cars made in China will be sold in Russia by the end of 2007, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce Sergei Katyrin said on Friday, when opening the international conference on "Automobile Business in Russia and China: Development Trend and Cooperation Prospects".

Russia's import of Chinese cars grows rapidly. Only 260 were sold in 2004 and more than 50,000 will be sold by the end of 2007.

PM optimistic about Russia prospects on atomic market

ELEKTROSTAL (Moscow Region), September 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov is optimistic about Russia’s prospects on the world atomic market. He spoke about it after visiting the Machine Building Plant in the city of Elektrostal, Moscow Region, which produces nuclear fuel.

Speaking about his impressions, Zubkov said that “the Machine Building Plant is beyond competition today, and the prospects of Russia’s operations on the world atomic market are very good.”

Birmania: Cina e Russia fermano le richieste più dure di Ue e Stati Uniti

Le sanzioni annunciate ieri dagli Stati Uniti e sostenute anche dalla Ue, non sono passate tra i 15 del Consiglio di sicurezza dove Cina e Russia, che mantengono importanti rapporti economici con la giunta militare di Rangoon, continuano a bloccare una risoluzione in questo senso.

Lo stop di Pechino a misure più drastiche è stato spiegato così dall'ambasciatore al Palazzo di Vetro Wang Guangya: "Le sanzioni - ha sostenuto - non aiutano la situazione laggiù", ma ha precisato che la Cina "confina con il Myanmar e quindi più di ogni altro è interessata alla stabilità e alla riconcilizione del Paese". Il diplomatico ha però spiegato che "anche se la situazione è problematica, riteniamo che non costituisca una minaccia alla pace e alla sicurezza internazionale" e che non si debba perciò ricorrere a misure contro la giunta militare.

Nella notte e poco prima dell'alba duecento religiosi sono stati arrestati in una serie di raid nei monasteri di Rangoon. Sources: Staged cyber attack reveals vulnerability in power grid

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Researchers who launched an experimental cyber attack caused a generator to self-destruct, alarming the federal government and electrical industry about what might happen if such an attack were carried out on a larger scale, CNN has learned.

Sources familiar with the experiment said the same attack scenario could be used against huge generators that produce the country's electric power.

Some experts fear bigger, coordinated attacks could cause widespread damage to electric infrastructure that could take months to fix.

CNN has honored a request from the Department of Homeland Security not to divulge certain details about the experiment, dubbed "Aurora," and conducted in March at the Department of Energy's Idaho lab

In a previously classified video of the test CNN obtained, the generator shakes and smokes, and then stops.
